HOLLINSHEAD ZIKAS DESIGN T (08) 8212 3511 F (08) 8212 3522 E firstname.lastname@example.org Hidden treasure Adelaide's natural treasures have been uncovered by a keen band of 'junior explorers'. Discovering dinosaur footprints, exploring the many uses of natural resources, investigating rock formations -- this was all in a day's work for children who took part in the SACOME treasure hunt. If the enthusiasm and excitement of these 230 explorers continues in their future careers, the resources industry will be fueled with innovative thinkers and leaders who will ensure the success of our dynamic industry. As a new, innovative activity, the treasure hunt focused on engaging young children by providing them with a positive interaction with the resources industry. At the same time, the opportunities and diversity provided by the resources industry was highlighted to their parents -- key influencers in their future career choices. The treasure hunt brought science, geology, geography and history to life for children through a trail of discovery in their city. It enabled them to discover how oil is used to make plastic money, how zinc is used in sun cream, how art is created with metals, and much more. Team leaders guided family groups along the route, helping the young explorers and their parents find clues about minerals. The feedback received from participants was extremely positive. All the surveyed parents said they and their children learnt more about the resources industry and all participants said they would take part in a similar activity again. It is up to us to ensure that the naturally curious children of today continue on their journey of exploration through their schooling years and emerge as the new technologists, scientists and engineers of the future. SACOME is committed to nurturing our young explorers through this journey, with the support of our members. SACOME is very grateful to all its partners -- including RI Aus, South Australian Museum, State Library of South Australia, Santos and SA Water. We would also like to thank the kind sponsors of our prizes -- Marathon Resources, Mithril Resources, Port Adelaide Football Club, BHP Billiton, Santos, Windmill Theatre, Haighs Chocolates, Monarto Zoo and the RI Aus. BHP Billiton is the major supporter of the SACOME careers promotion program.
