Welcome, new members Petratherm MD takes up new roles Petratherm Managing Director Terry Kallis has been elected to the Council of the South Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy in a new position. Mr Kallis represents energy (geothermal/renewable energy) in this position created at the SACOME AGM last year. Mr Kallis has also been appointed to the board of the Federal Government's new Clean Energy Innovation Centre. Completing the trifecta is his position as Chairman of the Australian Geothermal Energy Association (AGEA) earlier this year. AGEA was formed in 2007 to representing the interests of the Australian geothermal energy industry nationally. Mr Kallis and AGEA have a vision for geothermal energy to provide the lowest-cost, emissions-free renewable base load energy to Australian homes and businesses for centuries to come. Petratherm's plan for a 4km-deep well at the Paralana Geothermal Energy project is on schedule, according to Mr Kallis, who has praised strong ongoing government support for renewable energy and the geothermal sector. He believes COAG plans to increase the renewable energy certificate (post-tax) penalty from $40/ MWh to $65/MWh and extend the period to 2030 are likely to create greater certainty and improved NPV for geothermal project investment.
