"Adelaide Brighton has an alternative fuels and raw materials program where traditional resources are replaced with by-products from other industrial processes. Currently, the Birkenhead plant's recycled construction and demolition wood waste and carbon powder usage replaces about 25 per cent of its natural gas requirements. " After a two-year secondment to Canberra in a technical role at the Cement Industry Federation, Ms De Garis returned to Adelaide Brighton as Group Sustainability Manager to develop and implement government policy that seeks to regulate energy and emissions, and establish Adelaide Brighton's sustainability framework for the business and its public reporting. Adelaide Brighton continues to focus on sustainability issues and engage with the State Government, recently signing a Voluntary Sector Agreement to address greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability issues in South Australia. "Adelaide Brighton's awareness to achieve a balanced program of environment, social and economic programs puts the business on a sound footing for future success, "MsDe Garis said.
