The sixth conference is set to attract the highest attendance yet, with delegates registering from all over the South Australia and a high-than- usual number from interstate. Organiser and SACOME member Kevin Wills (pictured), of Flinders Mines, has around 22 talks lined up from the most interesting projects in the state. Alliance will tell the story of its Four Mile uranium discovery, Rex Minerals will discuss its Hillside copper-gold deposit, and BHP Billiton will describe its plans for the Olympic Dam expansion. Primary Industries and Resources SA is the main sponsor of the event and Paul Heithersay will address guests, reviewing the year in SA resources from the Government's perspective. Explorers share stories Adelaide to host international geoscientists The International Associa- tion on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD) will be holding its 13th Quadrennial Symposium in Adelaide next year. This is the first time the symposium has been held in Australia and it represents an excellent chance to highlight research and work on Australian ore deposits, new exploration technologies, and prospects and discoveries. The themes for this conference are diverse and cover both specific ore deposit-type themes and regional themes, including: giant ore deposits; magmatic and volcanic hosted ore deposits; residual and placer deposits; mineralogy (from exploration to beneficiation); new geophysical and geochemical exploration technologies; gem deposits; new energy (ie hot rock, nuclear, geothermal); and present- day mineralising systems. The State Government's Primary Industries and Resources SA (PIRSA) is overseeing this exciting event, which is expected to attract geoscience experts and students from around the world. The organising committee is chaired by Professor Ian Plimer (pictured) of Adelaide University and comprises IAGOD, PIRSA, SACOME and universities. The IAGOD symposium offers a range of sponsorship opportunities. For more information about these, exhibit spaces or to submit an abstract, visit the website (www.iagod. org) or contact the organiser: All Occasions Management, ph (08) 8125 2200, email firstname.lastname@example.org. The IAGOD Symposium will be held in Adelaide next April.
