Mining and resources sector back on track After a difficult 18 months the resources and mining sector is certainly back on track. In South Australia alone there are several new developments being fast tracked for production in 2010 and 2011. And besides the traditional deposits of copper and gold, iron ore and uranium will provide employment opportunities over the next two years. A recent survey by recruiting experts Hays revealed more than 60 per cent of businesses in the resources and mining sector have seen an increase in business activity over the past 12 months. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of jobs registered with many of the State's most prominent mine sites now recruiting. Hays are also working closely with local and interstate companies in South Australia to establish exploration, start-up and project management teams on new mine developments. The survey results also indicate the economic outlook is positive, with 67 per cent of businesses saying they see the economy strengthening over the next 6 to 12 months. As economic conditions continue to improve, competition for the best talent will only increase and renewed competition for candidates means that a skills shortage is imminent. Finding the right candidate with the necessary skills and experience will take significant time and resources.
