26 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2010 SA MINES & ENERGY JOURNAL SACOME is hosting a women in resources lunch on August 13 at the Intercontinental Restaurant. The panel will include Nikki Williams, CEO of NSW Minerals Council; Ros De Garis, Group Sustainability Manager, Adelaide Brighton; and Christine Charles, special advisor to the Minerals Council Australia. Panellists will share with the audience their experience and insights about being an executive woman in the male- dominated resources sector. WORKFORCE Women have long been under-represented in the resources industry, and although things are changing, there are still many barriers to proportional female participation in this sector. In South Australia, senior women in the sector have established a networking group to encourage and support other women in their resource- industry careers. The south Australian Chamber of Mines and Energy is pleased to support this initiative, with founding members from Finlaysons Lawyers, Beach Energy, Santos, PricewaterhouseCoopers and BHP Billiton. Women in resources Senior women in mining and energy have established a networking group. Purpose The purpose of the group is to provide an opportunity for women in leadership roles within the resources industry to network, discuss common issues and to promote participation of women in the resources industry in South Australia. The role of the group is to facilitate discussion and understand common issues in order to support professional women in the industry and promote participation of women in the resources sector in South Australia. Women in Resources South Australia will also collaborate with other groups supporting women in the industry.
