SA Mines and Energy Journal : August-Sept 2010
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER SA MINES & ENERGY JOURNAL 39 EVENTS Federal Minister Craig Emerson addressed nearly 350 guests, including senior representatives of the resources sector in South Australia, at the SACOME corporate lunch in June. Minister Emerson is one of the original architects of the Petroleum Resources Rent Tax and he agreed at short notice to be the guest speaker in the absense of Minister for Resources and Energy Martin Ferguson. This was SACOME's biggest lunch, and Mr Emerson addressed the contentious tax reform package proposed by the Rudd Labor Government, explaining that its decision to introduce a profits- based taxation system was in response to the massive growth in China and increased demand and prices for Australia's minerals. SACOME Chief Executive Jason Kuchel's response can be viewed on YouTube (www.youtube.com/ user/SACOMEmedia).
